Older people in Ukraine

Ukraine three years on: the ongoing struggles of older Ukrainians

24 February 2025 marks three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Nearly nine million older Ukrainians – one quarter of the population – have endured war, displacement, and loss. Yet their voices speak of perseverance, resourcefulness, and action.

They are teachers, caregivers, volunteers, and workers, keeping Ukraine going. Their needs are clear: dignity, accessible transport, healthcare, and the opportunity to continue contributing.

Ukraine’s future is being written now. Nine million voices must help guide it.
