Statement on killing of Juzoor health workers

Published

We are heartbroken and outraged by the killing of two dedicated health workers from our partner organisation in Gaza, Juzoor for Health and Social Development – a doctor and a nurse who were serving their community in the most harrowing of circumstances.

We extend our deepest condolences to their families, loved ones, and the entire Juzoor team. These brave individuals were not just healthcare workers – they were lifelines, providing care and hope amid relentless violence.

This tragedy is yet another reminder that health workers and humanitarian personnel are not targets. International humanitarian law is clear: civilians and those delivering life-saving support must be protected at all times.

This is not an isolated event. According to the United Nations, over 408 aid workers have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, making it one of the most dangerous places for humanitarian personnel.

We join our voices with countless others in demanding an immediate and lasting ceasefire. The killing must stop. The world cannot continue to look away as Gaza’s health system collapses and the cost of inaction grows with every passing day.

HelpAge stands in solidarity with our partners in Gaza and with all humanitarian workers risking their lives to bring relief, dignity, and care in the face of unimaginable suffering.
