HelpAge International in Mozambique is working and sharing experiences with governments from across Africa to tackle poverty in old age.

This week, the whole world is looking towards Rio de Janeiro, where the Rio+20 summit is taking place. This Friday 15 June marks the first officially recognised, “United Nations World Elder Abuse Awareness Day” (WEAAD). Millions of people around the world are holding events to raise awareness of a growing and global injustice.

This year is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations (EY2012). To further promote intergenerational solidarity, 29 April is the European day of Solidarity between Generations. To celebrate the day, HelpAge has launched a new campaign to raise awareness among young people of what it means to be older in Europe and the developing world.

A new campaign launched today by HelpAge International is raising awareness amongst young people of what it means to be older. The Make it Ageless campaign will raise awareness of the rights and welfare of older people including those living in poorer countries, such as Kenya.

We are very sad to hear of the passing away of Ambassador Julia Tavares de Alvarez. Her dedication to campaigning and championing, for over 40 years, the cause of older women and men has been inspirational for all those who had the fortune to be in contact with her.

HelpAge International received the prestigious 2012 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize on 16 April in Washington. The award was given by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation at a special ceremony at the Global Philanthropy Forum's 11th annual conference in Washington.

Older people across the world will come together this week to mark World Health Day on 7 April. As part of our global campaign, Age Demands Action on Health, they will call on their governments to address the health challenges of an ageing world.

For the first time in 60 years, the World Health Organization (WHO) will put global ageing first on 7 April, World Health Day. Today's global launch comes as leading commentators across the sector warn that population ageing will hamper hard fought achievements in socioeconomic and human development if action is not taken.
