We’ve just finished recording a special episode of our radio show “Koze Granmoun Pawòl Timoun” (“older people speak”) which will be broadcast on Friday October 1st. This special show was hosted by four of our senior volunteer presenters along with a special guest, the famous choreographer and dance teacher, Viviane Gauthier (92). The special programme will be broadcast this week on Réseau Etoile, a radio network of eight regional stations that cover the entire country.

Miss Viviane started her dance school in the 1950s and taught several generations of dancers and dance teachers, who, like her, represented Haiti and Haitian culture on the international scene. For this great contribution, she received many honours both in Haiti and abroad. She also wrote a great musical show about the history of Haiti. She hosted a television fitness programme well into her 80s. Viviane still teaches dance today, despite her great age. She’s a well-known and highly publicised woman who is highly appreciated by the Haitian public.

That’s why we have chosen her as one of our icons for the Age Demands Action campaign. I think that older people couldn’t find a better advocate for their cause, and she’s 100% agreed to lead the march of older people on Friday. In the pictures, Viviane is the lady with the big hat.
We’re also planning a one hour special TV show, a kind of televised debate between the younger generation and older people. The public channel TNH (National Television of Haiti) covers Haiti in full, and has a potential of three million viewers. In addition, TNH will provide breaking news on Friday morning to broadcast live the highlights of the walk on October 1st.
