Age Demands Action is only a few weeks away, so here is an update on the exciting work that is going on in the Philippines!
35 older people’s associations’ leaders from different parts of Metro Manila and nearby regions attended a preparatory meeting for Age Demands Action (ADA) on 15 August at the Coalition of Services of the Elderly’s (COSE) office.
They identified priority issues for the campaign and went through details of the preparation for the 1 October meeting with policy makers and the Department of Social Welfare and Development. They also identified the ADA spokesperson in the Philippines.
Doubts on social pension
The major discussion was centered on how the social pension is being implemented at present. Based on the observations, the older people felt the new law is not well implemented.
Recent research that has been carried out on the “Poorest of the Poor Older People”, revealed that these people are not on the list of pensioners who are receiving the social pensions.
You can find out more regarding the doubts expressed about the current pension in the Philippines and what the Age Demands Action campaigners will be asking for this 1 October in my ADA Philippines blog.
