The events were in one of Prague’s main exhibition halls. The event gathered together people working for NGOs and other professionals working on ageing issues.

The aim was to showcase how we can solve the issues that population ageing brings. It also allowed people to discuss these issues with local politicians.

Sharing older people’s stories

ZIVOT 90 helped to organise the exhiibiton and used the opportunity to introduce visitors HelpAge’s Age Demands Action campaign, which supports older people in developing countries.

We spoke to visitors about the problems older people face in the developing world. We showed them a photo exhibition featuring stories from older people in Uganda, Bangladesh and Peru. We also asked people to sign a petition to EU policy makers, which over 100 visitors signed.

The main event however was the “Seniors’ Run” over one mile, which was also to show solidarity to older people in developing countries. 47 runners in all participated.

Support from politicians

All the Age Demands Action events were supported by Czech MEP, Mr. Milan Cabrnoch who started the “Seniors’ Run” and was there to congratulate the winners. He also signed our petition.

I really felt that all the exhibitors and visitors at the event enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the opportunity to meet other people. People there really liked the solidarity run and hopefully we can do the same thing next year and keep raising awareness of older people’s issues in the developing world.

Sign the Age Demands Action petition and support older people’s rights.
